SAC CW is this weekend

The Scandinavian Activity Contest on CW is this weekend 19-20 September 12-12 UTC.

Each part of this “Polar Battle” gathers 1000+ contesters from all around the world. As the Nordic hams enter their radio huts en masse, SAC offers non-Scandinavians a unique opportunity to work the propagationally challenged Arctic nations and practice your skills.

Things to check out

Don’t forget to read the rules https://www.sactest.net/blog/rules/. Changes compared to 2019 are marked in red.

We have a tradition of making Results booklets from each SAC. Go to
https://www.sactest.net/blog/sac-booklets/ and read what happened the last years with lot of nice stories and pictures.

Please take a look on our Sponsored plaques program (geographical, special skills, etc.) https://www.sactest.net/blog/rules/sac-sponsored-plaque-program/ Maybe you will earn one this year!

Ham radio and contesting is very much about propagation. Learn about propagation to Scandinavia: https://www.sactest.net/blog/propagation/

Announce your activity and challenge your friends at https://www.sactest.net/blog/announce_form/

Rules for SAC 2020

We have updated the SAC rules for 2020. Biggest news is that we now allow for assistance in all operator categories. We have also clarified the rules about plaques and awards. See the rules for details!

We are still having a pandemic and we urge every participant to pay extra care and follow advice and restrictions regarding Covid-19. Extra care must be taken for participants in the Multi Operator categories and we encourage the use of remote operation. For Scandinavian Multi-Multi operations we allow for “scattered stations”, similar to the HQ-station concept in the IARU HF Championship. If you decide to participate with “scattered stations”, please inform us via email to support@sactest.net.

UPDATE 2020-09-16

Discussions around rule change have continued. After some consideration and by receiving an excellent suggestion, we have decided to flip assisted / non-assisted column around: Instead of marking non-ass. “N” (novice, like someone joked;-), we will mark assisteds A. For this in results will be separate column, and data for this comes from log submission robot. Participant will be asked whether one used cluster etc. or not.

UPDATE 2020-08-21
After publishing the rules for SAC 2020 we have got some reactions on allowing for assistance in all operator categories. The reason behind the change is that we want to reduce the number of operator categories and plaques. The reduction will also make the log handling and checking easier.
In order to recognize operators that prefer not using any assistance we have decided that you are able to state if you operated without any assistance when submitting the log. Operators who participate  without assistance will be marked with (N) after the call in the ranking lists.

SAC 2015 – Final Results

We are pleased to announce the final results for SAC 2015. This year we had a small increase in participants on CW, compared to last year. But in the SSB leg we had a drop of almost 300 logs, probably due to the extremely bad propagation. In total we received 1958 logs. sac-award-2015

The SAC award has been re-designed with a new look. Download your own award by simply clicking the rank number in the result listing. To view your or someone else’s UBN, click on the callsign. A PDF Results Booklet will be released in the near future, including the tabulated results, soapbox comments, and longer contest stories and photographs collected from a number of SAC participants.

We would like to congratulate the following winners of our regular and sponsored plaques:

SAC 2014 – FINAL RESULTS

We are now pleased to announce the final results of the Scandinavian Activity Contest 2014, after a number of adjustments to the preliminary results were made during the five-day review period. We’d like to thank you for your observations, and will continue to work on improving the log checking process and the clarity of the rules text.

Over 2200 logs were submitted on CW and SSB, signifying a healthy SAC! There is still room to grow, and we will keep looking for ways to increase activity both within and outside Scandinavia to ensure a fun time for all. A PDF Results Booklet will be released in the near future, including the tabulated results, soapbox comments, and longer contest stories and photographs collected from a number of SAC participants.

SAC Rules Changes

The SAC Contest Committee has updated the contest rules for 2014 and are introducing a Sponsored Plaque Program.

Highlights from the new rules are:

New categories for non-Scandinavian stations

  • Single Operator All Band – Low Power Assisted
  • Single Operator All Band – QRP Assisted
  • Single Operator Low Band – High Power Assisted

New categories for Scandinavian stations

  • Single Operator All Band – High Power Assisted
  • Single Operator All Band – Low Power Assisted
  • Single Operator All Band – QRP Assisted

Reduced log submission time period

In order to speed up the results, we have reduced the log submission time period from two weeks to 7 days.

Awards

Awards for all participants will be downloadable for printout from the SAC website. No paper awards will be sent out any longer.

SAC SPONSORED PLAQUE PROGRAM

I addition to the rule changes, we have started a new SAC Sponsored Plaque Program. We hope that several SAC enthusiasts are willing to sponsor one or several plaques from the program. Read more on the SAC Sponsored Plaque Program page!

National Team Contesting Trial

We have decided to end The National Team Contesting Trial (for Scandinavian teams). It was hard to form full teams in all countries each year, but the upside was that we got very fine experience from the use of the real time scoring system at cqcontest.net together with live video transmission from the teams. So we encourage all participants to use the cqcontest.net real time scoring service extensively during SAC. Real time scoring adds a lot of excitement during the contest and it’s fun for “the spectators” as well.
